I just wanted to take a minute to say thank you to the wonderful folks in Lafayette, La...not only my husband's Uncle Harold who allowed 8 of us (and 2 dogs) move into his home, but the people we encounter everyday during our stay.
Think about it: here's a town that's opened its doors to thousands of evacuees from Hurricane Katrina. We're creating long lines in their groceries, using up all the gas from their stations, causing all sorts of traffic problems, but everyone I've come across so far has been polite, friendly and sympathetic. I appreciate your hospitality, Lafayette.

I got a text message from ~D yesterday afternoon letting me know that they are doing well and she will call be as soon as possible! Hope y'all are doing well. Please let me know if there is anything that I can do for you, send to you, etc!
XOXO
I appreciate the offer, Jules. We're hanging in there though. I'll let you know if I need anything.
I spoke to ~D yesterday and they are good. She was on her way home from a FEMA run for ice and such. They are holding out at home...
It was GREAT to hear her voice!!! I'll keep you posted! Love ya!!
ahhh ... so you're part of the reason my trips home from work have become hour-long expeditions. but seriously ... good to hear danna and her blog court all fared reasonably well.
I saw this on a website about the St. Tammany Parish schools... hope that this info helps out!

Spoke to Danna .. they have had power for 2 days and their phone came back today at 4 pm. Hope that you are well and once again if there is ANYTHING that I can do and help with PLEASE let me know!!
elle*bee, I am glad to read that you and your family are doing well. God bless you and your loved ones.
Hope all is well with you! Just wanted you to know that I was thinking of you!
Hiya Elle*Bee !!!
We are very fortunate...we received no damage...no water ! However we are the shelter for all of P's family. We can have anywhere from 9 ( including us ) to 14 people in our house. Doing simple things like getting on the internet and making simple "Hey how are ya" phone calls are difficult.
HOWEVER! I did get your phone call on ( Friday? ) and I NEED to call you.
But until I do. we are JUST FINE!
XOXO

Sorry, raindog, that would be me...or more likely Dear Hubby. I marveled at how gracious everyone was. Here we were, clogging up their streets, creating lines at groceries and banks, and I hadn't personally heard a single complaint. I visited friends in Lafayette frequently in the '80's and everyone was just as great as I remembered.
